I have always had a fascination with spoons. In my estimation, they are the quintessential utensil and often the first we encounter. As implements they appear as vestiges of the cupped hand dipping into something and conveying it to one’s mouth for consumption or making an offering, serving to another. The curvature of the bowl, the flowing transition into the neck, and the slight thickening of the handle make up key features of the utensil and provide a creative canvas for experimentation.

Within these three spoons my iterations of this utensil are playful three-dimensional sketches combining differing formal elements including texture, color, luster, proportions, and form.

The interplay of the formal elements I incorporate in each design are intended to guide the interaction of the user and elevate the experience of eating or serving. My primary constraint was that each spoon had to include the combination of brass with fabricated or cast pewter component, created using the same mold but altering the cast element for each design.
