The spoons in this series are hand-forged copper with tinned bowls. These two materials—copper (Cu) and tin (Sn)—are not only elemental in the scientific sense, but when combined, speak to a shared history of sustenance and use, of nourishment and care. Within each piece exists a dialogue between these materials, as well as conversations surrounding expectation and intent. Forging allows me to explore and reveal the tractable fluidity of copper, while tin brings a lustrous and protective quality to the work. The tinning of their bowls enhances their utility, while the forms themselves challenge assumptions of function and design.
