The spoon reminds me of a boat, gracefully engineered to navigate through liquid. A tool to serve a briny meal. With these maritime analogies and inspirations, these three spoons have intertwined the delicate dance of lines that mirror and reflect each other, echoing the intricate patterns formed by the surface of the sea. Even in the making, the practice of forging rigid lines into each fluid curve enacts the mesmerizing properties of water. These spoons are new work following my main work’s focus of sculpting serving wares. This passion evolved from wanting to create tools that create connection, and to focus on its intersection with the spirituality in sharing food. My style uses both refined and organic techniques, where areas of texture can emerge and become a nuanced detail that documents the process while conveying the intimate sense of time, ritual, existence and connection of the maker, user, and object.
